A Sporty New Look For BBC Sport

The BBC released a new version of the Sport section of their website.  This is part of a wider project to provide a more consistent experience, whatever device is used to access the content.

Viewers of the desktop site are seeing the greatest impact.  More stories are being shown with images rather than being presented as headlines only.  This is big step forward.  Imagery plays a huge part in capturing our attention and this will help those browsing the website to identify articles of interest.

The other thing to point out is how great the BBC are at gathering user feedback on the changes they implement.  Here the banner at the bottom of the page asks for feedback and we often see beta pages of the new website collecting data from visitors in this way.

Our consultants have worked with the BBC UX team on several projects and know how much influence user research and usability testing has on product design.  The culture is to learn, build, test and refine.  And the process doesn’t stop.  The goal is to keep on improving.

Innovation and user centred design is at the heart of what they do and explains, at least in part, why bbc.co.uk is consistently found in lists of the most frequently visited websites in the UK.
